The WEIRD Reason You’re Depressed

They call it “comfort food” for a reason.

The Mental Health Foundation recently determined that an unhealthy diet may be one of the greatest contributors to the depression epidemic in America.

Sugar makes us feel good temporarily, because it causes a brief surge in dopamine levels.

Researchers recently analyzed 22 years of data on over 10,000 participants, revealing that men with the highest sugar intake were 23 percent more likely to suffer from mental health issues than those with lower sugar intakes.

Here’s the thing… that “highest sugar” category was classified as 67 grams per day.

And, in the Western diet, it’s incredibly easy to consume more than 67 grams of sugar a day.

A 12oz. can of Coca Cola is 39 grams of sugar… a Dunkin Donuts muffin is around 45 grams… and a Starbucks Frappuccino is more than 75 grams of sugar!

Whether it’s you or someone you love, there’s a good chance you know someone who is struggling with depression.

But with a few dietary changes, you can boost your mood and start feeling better fast.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that consuming lots of fruit, vegetables, fish, and whole grains reduces the risk of depression.

These foods give you the building blocks your body needs to make key neurotransmitters.
