Other studies report that having kidney disease increases your risk of gout, but this is the first study to show that the connection is a two-way street.
To help prevent gout—and reduce your risk of chronic kidney disease in the process—focus on avoiding foods that drive up your uric acid levels.
These include foods like anchovies, herring, scallops, trout, haddock, bacon, turkey, and veal.
Instead, eat more complex carbs like fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, lean meat and poultry, and drink plenty of water.
Avoiding gout will save you a load of pain, but avoiding kidney disease could actually save your life.
