Cake, cookies, frozen pizza, pie crust… no one needs to tell you that food like this isn’t good for you.
But how you view them changes with time. Let me explain…
When you’re younger, you might not give a second thought to eating foods like these.
As you get a little older, you might try to cut back because of what they’ll do to your waistline.
A little older, and you start to think about their impact on your blood sugar levels and heart disease risk.
But no matter what your age, there’s ANOTHER, far more dangerous reason to stay far away from these foods.
Alzheimer’s is one of the fastest-growing epidemics of our time.
And the latest research shows that your lifestyle has a far greater impact on your risk for developing dementia than whether your parents or grandparents had the condition.
Unfortunately for carb-addicted food lovers everywhere, the biggest lifestyle factor that impacts your dementia risk is your DIET.
But today I’m not going to talk about junk food in general… I’m going to talk about something harmful that manufacturers love to put IN your junk food.
For decades, trans fats were the darling of the food industry. These artificial oils are cheap to make, they have a long shelf life, and they make food taste great. And they’re in practically everything.
They’re literally killing you.
Studies have already shown that they increase your bad cholesterol and lower your good cholesterol (more on that in a minute).
And now the latest study has shown that they increase your risk of developing Alzheimer’s, too.
Researchers studied 1,600 people for 10 years, and tested their blood levels of trans fats.
It turns out that the people with the two highest levels of trans fats in their blood were 52% and 74% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than those with the lowest levels.
And since the researchers used blood markers (as opposed to food questionnaires), the results are even more valid.
The study also confirms previous findings showing the trans fat/Alzheimer’s connection.
Now, because of the connection between trans fats and cholesterol, the government actually issued a BAN on trans fats back in 2015.
But loopholes and extensions have allowed them to still be in your food.
In fact, a food can be labeled “0 grams trans fat” even if one serving has .5 grams of the stuff.
That means that the only REAL way to avoid this heart-damaging, brain-robbing junk is to stop purchasing food from the center aisles of the grocery store.
But does it mean you can never eat cake again?
You can have your cake and eat it too… just make sure that cake isn’t from the center aisle of the grocery store.
When you bake your own cake, you know what’s in it, and what’s not… And as long as you’re staying away from margarine and Crisco, you know you’re avoiding those trans fats, too.
