Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences studied more than 100,000 people in China. At the end, they found that folks who drank green tea lived 1.26 years longer than non-tea drinkers.
Those who didn’t drink tea also were at greater risk of developing a serious condition like heart disease.
“Regular drinkers” were those who drank tea three times or more per week. Anyone who drinks less was considered a non-drinker.
Even better? Green tea cuts the risk of dying from either heart disease or stroke by 25%!
And overall, the tea drinkers of eight years or more had a 39% lower chance of developing either condition.
This tea is loaded with polyphenols which contain antioxidants that support heart and overall health. Polyphenols also stop cell damage and can even repair already damaged cells.
Green tea is extra beneficial since, unlike black tea, it is not fermented — this process is believed to make the antioxidants less effective.
While drinking green tea alone does not ensure a perfectly healthy lifestyle, it is certainly a step in the right direction when it comes to your health and longevity.
