Top 5 Spices to Prevent Cancer, Control Blood Sugar, and More!

Dear Reader,

It’s January… and that means saying goodbye to the holidays and packing away decorations for next year.

But while you may have taken down the lights and put away your Christmas tree—don’t put away those holiday baking supplies just yet

See, you may not realize it, but some of the most beloved holiday spices are actually underground health POWERHOUSES!

And five of these holiday flavors in particular can turn your spice rack into a medicine cabinet that can help you prevent cancer, control blood sugar, and more!

From cinnamon to peppermint, you could help improve things like headaches, mood, and even prevent cancer.

  1. Star anise

This delicious spice is the star of the classic Italian cookie pizzelles. And though you may not like the licorice flavor, this spice can help tame inflammation, freeing you from pain and protecting you from disease.

If you don’t have a recipe for pizzelles, pick up a bottle of Chinese five spice instead. Not only does it contain star anise, it also has fennel, a good source of vitamin C.

  1. Cinnamon

This dessert classic is also a mood-booster, perfect for fighting back against those post-holiday blues.

But not only that, cinnamon has also been shown to also help lower cholesterol if you suffer from diabetes.

  1. Cloves

This spice is almost like a combination of cinnamon and anise, flavor-wise, and has just as many health benefits as both of those spices.

One study found that when combined with ginger, cloves can help control out-of-whack blood sugar.

But not only that, it’s also a noted pain reliever. In fact, one study even found clove oil can help relieve toothaches!

  1. Peppermint

What would the holidays be without candy canes and peppermint? But this strong natural flavor isn’t just good for candy—it can also help banish headaches.

Research shows that drinking peppermint tea or using peppermint oil can help relieve the pain of tension headaches.

And if you’re still reeling from those heavy holiday meals, peppermint is a time-honored stomach remedy as well.

  1. Rosemary

This gorgeous and fragrant herb isn’t just for roasted meat and vegetables anymore. Rosemary has now been shown to help prevent cancer.

This is in part thanks to its high polyphenol content. Polyphenols help fight inflammation which has been linked to many diseases, including cancer.

So, start your new year out right with these miraculous flavors. Don’t be afraid to sneak them into new dishes or combine some of them into an invigorating tea.

Whichever way you use them, make sure you stick with organic spices to avoid harmful pesticides and additives.
